Coverting AC to DC
Hope someone can help. We have a 2 speed swamp cooler mounted in the back of our mobile home and I want to convert it to DC to save on electricity. I figure I can run it off a car battery or the like? These are the specs from the AC motor on it now.HP 1/3 1/9 RPM 1725/1140 V 115 Amp 5.6 3.2 Hz 60 FR 56z.

can probably be converted if you can find a dc motor that would work however the amp draw will likely be very large and a battery will probably get run down very quickly so dont really expect you will save anything on electricity.

I agree.
By converting to DC not only will you not have any savings you will use more energy for the conversion than if you left it alone.
There could be some power savings in converting to a different motor type but you would never recoup the cost of the fairly costly motor.

I agree, you will end up using more electricity by converting to DC. Every time you convert or change something you loose energy in the form of heat. By adding the extra step of converting AC to DC you'll loose energy and batteries are not 100% efficient so you'll loose energy storing it in a battery.
