Dryer Neutral Connection

The installer came yesterday to set up the dryer, but left because he said we had a 3 prong stove outlet on the cellar wall--can't mate to dryer cord.

I looked into it and removed the wall outlet--noticed 4 wires, bare ground, wht, red & black. So I decided we want a 4 prong cord and outlet.

This is how I will do it on wall outlet,

--Attach ground wire to 4" box ground, then to connector ground screw.
--Attach wht, black and red to their respective screws.

On the dryer cord:

--Remove white wire on dryer case, and reattach to neutral white lug. put cord white there also.
--Put cord ground on the previously removed dryer case spot.
--Attach red and black to respective lugs.

How does this sound? Thanks!

You need to ground both the box and receptacle .

the dryer should have instructions on how to convert from 3 to 4 wires.

Thus is the best route to follow.

2nd best route to follow, consult You Tube, converting from 3 to 4 wires is clearly shown on several videos.

Found the manual--inside the dryer drum. The manual concurs with what I did. I looked at You Tube
also. Found one HD video where the guy, oddly enough, attached ground to the dryer case WITHOUT removing and moving the neutral that was existing there.

I want to be double sure what I am doing which is why I double check here.
