How to remove connection?
I've been trying to remove/ pull out this connection plug however with failed attempts. It was covered with a yellow plastic type substance. Any tips for how to pull this plug out? I've tried prying it out and pulling on plastic (which lead to the sides to break off because it was that stuck).

Yeah, that yellow goop is some type of adhesive. I think it would be quite difficult to unplug.
My only suggestion is to go at it with an Exacto knife. I can't tell though whether it's supposed to pull upwards, or horizontally. Most connectors like that do pull vertically out.
I'd imagine the manufacturer had issues with the connector coming undone during shipping or whatever, and this was their solution. Good luck with it... I'm not all that hopeful.

Looks like an epoxy coated board. Something designed as semi waterproof. It looks like the connector was sealed too.
With that type of plug and pin it looks like it should slide off..... not up. However it also looks like the glue was installed when the plug was connected and the connector will not come apart easily without breaking further.
