A question about recycled wire.

Hello, all! I live in North Carolina, and I'm looking into the prospect of wiring up a large shop building on my property. I've come into a fairly large quantity of electrical wire, collected as scrap from various local building jobs. It's all in near perfect condition, albeit a little dirty. I can't find any information about whether or not the electrical code requires wiring to be new, or if I can use the recycled wire. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance!

There is nothing in the code. As long as the wire/cable is the proper gauge and not damaged I say go for it. I would not be adding extra junction box just because the cable was too short. If the cable is too short use a new piece and save the short ones for other jobs.

I often use old leftover and/or used wire for short runs although most of my work doesn't get inspected. As stated above the main thing with used wire is to make sure it's not damaged!

btw - welcome to the forums!
