sub panel wiring

I have 200 amp service and want to add a 100 amp sub panel. The sub panel will power an electric dryer, washing machine, fridge, microwave, dish washer, 12 outlets and 4 overhead lights with ceiling fans. What size wire should I run from the main panel to the sub panel? Thanks

Will the subpanel be located next to the main panel? Assuming THHN copper three #2
and one #8. If panels connected by metal conduit #8 ground is optional.

Are you going to use cable or conduit with individual wires?

My service is on one end of my house and most of the wiring is on the other end. I am trying to not run another 7/8 circuits. I already have the 100 amp box so I thought that would be easier. I am planning on using cable.

Use 1-1-1-3 Aluminum SER. It is installed like NM-b.

100A in copper will be 3-3-3-5 Cu SER. 60' or more is going to cost a lot more $$ than the 1-1-1-3 AL SER, $5.38ft vs $1.67ft. Buy it online from Wire and Cable Your Way. You don't have an electrical supply that can order wire?

Wow. looks like I will be using aluminum! There is a local supplier but they do not sell to the public.
Just to make sure I am doing this right. I will use a 100 amp breaker from the main box to a 100 amp breaker in the sub box. Will this wire fit into a breaker, it looks like a tight fit. Thanks for the help.

100A breaker should take up to a #2/0 wire. I'm surprised the electrical supplier doesn't sell to the public. Do they have a sales counter? Tell them what wire you want and it will be a cash sale.
You may not need the full 100A. You can use the 100A subpanel and feed it with less amps. 2-2-2-4 Al SER is more common and you can feed it with up to 90A breaker.
If you have a Lowes, Home Depot or Menards check those for the 2-2-2-4 Al SER.

I have tried to buy from them before, they won't sell without a tax number. That 2 2 2 4 is heavy stuff, I don't know how I would even get that to the basement. Lowes does not carry it but you can order it. For 1' it is 69.99 shipping. For 65' it says it weighs over 9,999 pounds. LOL https://www.lowes.com/cart

I just checked Menards and they don't have it. Home Depot does not stock it but can order it and it is 1.48 per ft. They have free shipping and takes about 10 days which is fine, I can wait.

Lowes has it for $1.78/Ft. If you order it from Lowes there is no shipping charge if you ship it to the store and pick it up there. Are you a veteran, cost is lowered by 10% with veteran discount.

If you prefer Lowes, Lowes will order it for you with no shipping charge to the store and match the Home Depot price. If you prefer Home Depot, order it there. When Lowes has the cheaper price, Home Depot will match their price.

Did you see my post below? I put the order in at Lowes and it came back saying it weighed over 9,999 pounds. I know it is wrong but I found it kind of humorous. Home Depot will ship it to my house for the same price and I don't really have a preference between the two.

Did you actually read my post? Have Lowes place the order and they will match the Home Depot price. Since you have no preference between the two you are good to go, but also good to keep the price matching strategy in mind for future needs.

Just to be clear, CasualJoe is saying go to the physical store and order, do not order through their website.
