Sub Panel Review and Question

Installed my sub for generator and everything works fine however I have a few questions.

Setup: #4 from 60amp in main to 60 amp in sub. Removed ground screw in sub and connected #6 ground from main ground non bonded to ground bar in sub. Neutral to Neutral.

1. When I kill a breaker and then check my splice in junction above, ground is energized white, black red not. I don't think this is normal, Is this normal?
2. These 3 are MWBC, Had to order 2 pole breaker for the 2 circuits that are using 1 pole, will replace when they come in. Does my setup look ok?

Still need to run generator wire and receptacle.

Thank you.

So it seems the ground was being energized by running through the conduit with the hots. Will an insulated ground solve this or should I run the ground through a separate hole?

What do you mean by?

1. When I kill a breaker and then check my splice in junction above, ground is energized white, black red not.
Your ground should never be spliced to a white neutral. What breaker are you turning off?

I don't think a bare ground should cause this, but when using conduit I always use an insulated ground. How are you determining you have current on the ground? Are you using a non-contact tester?

ground was spliced to ground. The breaker was one to the frig. I pulled the ground from the main to the sub, and ran it separately using insulated and now I do not have this issue.

Also seems like the non-contact tester was not very reliable.

As you found, non-contact testers are notoriously unreliable. The tester is probably picking up some inductance in the ground wire through the conduit. It of course shouldn't, but alas, they aren't always reliable. My go-to tester always is a simple $4 neon tester. The only time I use the non-contact tester is to double-confirm that the power is off before cutting or starting to work on a cable/circuit.

These 3 are MWBC, Had to order 2 pole breaker for the 2 circuits that are using 1 pole, will replace when they come in. Does my setup look ok?
Yup, MWBC connections look good. Instead of a 2-pole breaker, you could use a handle tie instead. Either way works.
