12v Transformer to 12v Rechargeable Battery?
Can I connect a 12v transformer to a 12v rechargeable battery to recharge the battery?

No, a transformer produces alternating current. You need direct current at the proper voltage to charge a battery. A battery charger is the best/cheapest way to get that, but it can be built using other types of DC power supplies. Some types of batteries also require a charge controller to prevent the battery from overheating and catching fire.

Be sure the photocell is a 12vDC unit. Not sure what a "reversed photo cell" is.

On edit: I was reading that a reversed photocell energizes the circuit in the daytime instead of at night. Is that what you want ? Hard to tell as we don't know what a butterfly is.

My current situation...
Currently, it runs well if the battery(s) do not drain during the nights... Most nights they do drain. I tried a reversed-photocell so that it would be on during the day, and off at night to save the power that was built-up during the day... But it did not work. Help?
