trenching with roots

I'm looking at a 120' of trenching, with a field of roots about 1/4 of that. Any hope for a walkbehind trencher and some manual recipricating saw work to get thru this? FL sandy soil under sod.
I'd hate to have to upgrade the trencher in the middle of the job.
btw, all the trees have been cut down and stumps ground. Just the subsurface land mines remain.

It all depends on your trencher. Vibrating blade type can be slowed or stopped by roots, especially smaller machines. Every "digging" trencher (chain type & rotary cutter wheel) I've used just chewed through roots without slowing down.

I've watched the local cable company using a vibrating plow.
Definitely not too effective with shallow roots.

Just did this with a 36" trencher in the northeast. Roots were simple.....the 25 lbs rocks weren't. The extra money ($120) spent on a larger trencher was well worth it.

Wow you guys are lucky with your trenching machines....that you even have it. In the electric company in FL I work for we dig trenches that length by hand...through roots and all, 22 inches down...not fun and the younger you are the better lol. ANY trench machine you have is an immediate advantage I would say

Been there.... done that when I was younger. Once you go "over the hill" the manual digging is over.

I'm 29 and it is not easy for me either, but the FL heat and humidity makes it much worse. the thing is our company is not only residential and commercial but we do landscape lighting also...plate is full
