Wire along crawl space concrete foundation wall?
I need to run some water heater wire along a short section of concrete foundation wall before it goes along some joists and then wall studs.
I keep seeing code about protecting the wire in unfinished basements but how do I do this? I don't really want to run metal cased wire all the way to the panel just due to a short concrete section.

In my opinion, crawl space is same as inside of the wall and most of the time, it doesn't need any special protection.
Just secure the wire properly along the wall or joist.

I don't think protection is needed in a crawl space.
If you feel you need protection a board beside the cable will be fine. If something bashes into the wall the board will protect the cable from being crushed.
