Confused about electrical wiring

I have an outlet where the neutral is acting as ground. And ground is the neutral.. just bought the house. I've opened all outlets and lights and i can't see anything crossed anywhere,, there's no junction boxes in the attic,, what do i do??

In a properly constructed and properly wired system you will always measure about 120 volts hot to neutal, about 120 volts hot to ground, and about 0 volts neutral to ground at receptacles.

This is true when ground and neutral are properly interconnected (bonded) at the panel where the first whole-house disconnect is located.

How did you determine this was a problem. Neutral and ground will function the same when interchanged. Put the wires in the correct place and everything should be fine.
