Chip hammer bit stuck in my post hole
I wasn't sure which subforum to post this in but I am building a fence so I thought I'd put it here. Out of 22 holes for my garden fence, 1 had a lime stone (I think) boulder.
So, I rented a chip hammer and started drilling and chipping away. Everything was going great, I was almost done, and then the drill but stuck.
It is a long bit and not in super deep, maybe about 7 inches or so. I've tried a pipe wrench but since there is so much bit on the outside, it just wants to bend around instead of turning.
Any and all suggestions are welcome!
If there is a better forum, tell me and I will see if I can delete or move it, thanks!

It's moved.
Chip hammer = hammer drill. Is this a big one like a jackhammer or like a large drill ?
You tried disconnecting the drill and turning the bit in reverse and it just bends ?

It is not a huge tool, maybe like an extra large drill. I wouldn't compare it to a full-size jack hammer. Maybe I'd call it a mini-jack hammer. The guy at the rental shop is the one who called it a "chip hammer." Personally, I've heard a similar device called a "hammer drill" like you suggest.
Yes, I tried disconnecting the drill and turning the bit in reverse but it just bends around. About 2/3 of the bit is protruding from the rock.
As for giving it a few whacks on the side, it is too deep in a hole for the sledge to fit at all. Maybe I can tap it with a framing hammer or the mini-sledge sideways. This is somewhat far down at the bottom of a hard-won fencing hole after all!!!

I have found you can get them unstuck by bending side to side or pulling while the hammer is running. Is it a drill type bit or just a pointed spike?

Thank you all, but I broke the bit off in my attempts. Luckily, the rental guy ate the cost. We didn't sign any agreement so I doubt he had any leverage over me in the first place. But, I was prepared to pay for it anyway--lucky me and lesson(s) learned!

Not to be holier than thou, but I would have paid for the bit I broke and struck it up to a learning curve. No reason the retailer should have eaten something that was your fault. Cheers to the retailer.
