When did powertools come into popular use?
I was just wondering when powertools became popular. Did they have power screwdrivers, saws, drills and things to build houses say in 1900? What about the 1930's?
Was there a time when men had to manually screw in screws and manual saw lumber building a house?
Just wondering.

Power tools were used during the industrial revolution period, but it was limited to factory use and the power was from huge sources such as water wheels and engines that provided power for an entire factory. Modern day power tools were rudimentary and heavy in the beginning making them difficult for the average joe to own costwise or operate.
When I was a kid back in the 50's my job was to straighten out nails on a concrete block with a hammer. No nail went unused, period. All cutting was done with hand saws, and drilling was with a brace and bit. My but we have come a long way
This was my dad's pride and joy. Probably cost a week's wages, but made work go faster.
