Talking Trying to fix up an old Craftsmen band saw

Hi All,

I got an old band saw for cheap on craigslist, and I'm slowly trying to make it a little less run down. My hopes are not perfection here - just "decent."

At this point, what seems to be the worst is that the arm coming down off the structural portion of the saw is riveted, and the rivets all seem loose. Images:

The rivets being loose lets that whole arm jiggle around upwards of 1/4 inch.

This is a ways outside of anything I've done before, but I'm not afraid of tinkering with it. It seems to me like I need to figure out how to get that top wheel off and replace those rivets with bolts or something? Anyone have insight and/or advice?

Thank you!!

Generally you have two choices when the rivets don't hold; try and get them tight [usually with a hammer and punch] or drill them out and replace with bolts.
