Unhappy Loud whiney compressor

My new air compressor was suspiciously loud when I first fired it up (check out "compressor wine" sound clip in folder link below). It also seemed to have a rattle or click when I left it on for a minute. The volume goes up and down because I was moving it away in case it would overload the mic. Is there something wrong with my Cambell Hausfeld oil filled compressor?

Welcome to the forums.

It sounds like a bad bearing
By the speed of the sound it appears to be a motor bearing.

That is exactly what it would sound like if run without oil.
Most of that type of compressor must be shipped without oil in the crankcase because of the fact the oil will spill if the compressor is tipped.
The container oil comes in is rated for shipping.

Did you possibly not add oil or maybe the unit was returned to the store where someone else didn't add oil?
