UNKNOWN Device

I ran across this device today. The building had a couple of them mounted in ceiling tiles. Anyone have any idea what this is monitoring?Name: AlarmDevice.jpg

99% likely that it's an acoustic glassbreak sensor.

They are not located near exterior windows.

In that case, your best bet is to dismount one and read the label on the back of the device...

Possibly there is a heat detector above the ceiling tile [or duct detector] and that device monitors the current status, red LED when in alarm.

Doubtful, tpring. The device has vents, which a device monitoring -another- device wouldn't need. Not sure, but that dark spot next to the green LED looks like some kind of adjustment dial.

I have to go with Ron, this is 99% likely to be an acoustic glassbreak sensor, even though I don't recognize the model. If it has a potentiometer adjustment, it's likely to be an old model.

mitigater, how close are you calling "close" to an exterior window? Most GBs are not mounted within a few feet of the glass they're covering--they can be as far away as 30 or 40 feet, sometimes between large windows to cover more than one. Also, GBs sometimes cover interior glass, e.g.an interior office window.

I agree with Ron, best method is to climb up and look for a make & model number on the back.

I've been retired for more than ten years but that thing looks vaguely familiar. Maybe a gas monitor? Carbon Monoxide maybe?

I may be completely wrong.

System sensor piezo alert, likely tied to a duct detector. I believe what looks like a black dot is a red led, which if you were to look closely, likely states alarm underneath.

That's it. The red led photographing as black was what was throwing me off.
