home security camera

I'm looking for a good home security camera that can be mounted to view out a bay window and does not have a recurring video storage fee...so ideally something that can save the last 24-48 hours but nothing else needed. We travel little and are not really in need of long-term video storage. Cost of camera, I'm willing to spend up to $300 if I avoid a monthly fee. Any suggestions?

I won't suggest a camera, but I will suggest iSpy as an app. It will store video based on your camera setting. It's free.

There are several choices in either stand alone, wireless computer connected or wired.
Before you choose a type you need to be aware that the infrared night vision feature will not work through a window.
Cameras in your price range need to be mounted outside for the night vision to work unless the area you wish to view is very bright.

Well, as an initial step, there are several "security camera" apps that you can install on older android phones (e.g. the phone from a few years ago that's sitting in a desk drawer somewhere) that turn them into wifi security cameras.
Now that large capacity (64gig+) micro-sd cards are cheap, some apps also support "loop recording" e.g. the camera records the last 12 hours or 24 hours or 48 hours of video.

Ah, interesting, newest apps include motion-sensor trggered recording, and send a jpeg of what triggered the alert.

I'd try the smartphone-as-camera idea out initially, see what your results are, then see about a pricier installation.
