Question Installing Storm Windows

Is it ever possible to replace exterior storm windows while you're standing inside the room? And not have to be outside trying to balance on a ladder?

Nope, not going to happen.
Have someone inside hold the window in place while your screwing from the outside.

Sure. Take the sashes out. Just make sure the frame is square and that it isn't getting spread in the center. Use common sense though... not everyone can hang out a window without losing their balance... dropping the drill, the screws, the storm window, or all the above.

I understand not everyone is as comfortable on a ladder as I am but IMO it would be easier to install the storm window from the outside. Even with the sash removed it would be unhandy to install it by hanging out of the window.

Picture trying to do it without a ladder.
Once you remove the sashes your left with a flimsy frame that's not going to want to stay square.
Your trying to hold the window in place a screw in one hand and the drill in the other, when you trying to get the top screws in is where the real fun comes in.
I've found predrilling a pilot hole for the screws will help to prevent stripped out screw heads in the soft screws they supply with the windows.
