Great stuff and other insulation

My house is basically a house that was framed after a barn then sided with barn wood. The insulation is pretty poor. I started drilling small holes all around the walls and filling all the edges with great stuff. I've also been doing this to stop rodents from getting the run if the whole house. I even went in the crawl space and filled the space between the house and the foundation with great stuff. Some corners I've cut open and shoved wire screening is so they can't chew thorough. I'm not going too heavy because I don't want to damage the walls. Once this is done, what's a good insulation to use to fill the rest of the walls with? I like foam because it's easy but great stuff would be expensive and probably not the best for larger open spaces. Any suggestions/ recommendations?

Look into spray foam. But I think you already know that mice can chew and tunnel in foam. Other that your question is pretty vague.

 

Great stuff is a one part foam gap sealer, it's not really intended to be used for bulk insulation but that's not to say somebody hasn't tried!

 

You should call in professional insulators. They have the tools and expertise to spray foam insulation.

 

I blew a palette (36 bags) of cellulose into my attic and it's only been a month but it's a really noticeable improvement in warmth as well as sound deadening. It's easy - just very dusty. If you buy 20 bags of insulation at HomeDepot the machine rental is free for a day ($250 refundable deposit). Covered about 750 sq ft in 5 hours to R-50 or so. Cellulose is easy, no 'itch', fire resistant, animals won't live it it, etc. Get the Borate treated stuff below (not the one with aluminum sulfate). If you buy a palette HD will deliver for free. Cellulose is R-3.5 per inch and there's calculators to compute what's needed depending on square foot.age Definitely a DIY project but takes 2 people - one to run the hopper, one with the hose. Read the reviews. You don't need a pro. For walls you drill the hole and buy the plugs to reseal.
