Caulking between vinyl siding and brick
Hi all -
I have a vinyl siding and brick exterior on the front of my home. There is a horizontal transition between the siding and brick (see picture). My question is should the gap in the transition be caulked? It was not caulked when I purchased the home. I wasn't sure if caulking this gap could cause water trapment issues. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
PS...I can't figure out how to rotate the picture. It is correctly orientated before I upload it. To confirm it is a horizontal transition with the siding above the brick. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Welcome to the forums! Vinyl siding is not waterproof in the strictest sense. Water will find its way behind, either by blowing winds or just moisture build up. On the bottom of all siding you will see weep holes , there to allow moisture to escape. Hopefully, whatever is behind the siding has sufficient water repellency to shed water. You don't want to trap water behind the j channel. You may rest easier if you could unzip one piece of siding and see exactly what was used under it. Here again, hopefully a product like Tyvek or other WRB to keep water at bay.

Do not caulk it, all you'll do is form a dam to hold in water.
Looks like someone did not use the piece they cut off that siding behind it sitting in the J molding to act as a "kicker" so the siding would sit tighter to the J molding so it makes it look worst then what it is.

You may have flashing over the brick hidden by the siding as shown in yellow. We can't see what is to the right of the siding channel, so a wider picture would help.
