Old garage lap siding

Hello, hope all are ok today.
I have an old garage built probably in the's 40's that has been neglected so the lap siding is falling off here and there and needs replacement and also there is a 6x8 foot area where it was removed to support a greenhouse. The greenhouse is gone and I thought of making a lean to wood shed to cover up that area. It still has a tar paper type wrap.

I want to do the most economical thing so replacement and painting is the least expensive. I can't find 3 1/2 inch beveled lap siding. Any suggestions? Could I buy the larger size and rip it?

Thank you in advance for advice ...
Kathleen
