Patching pop outs

Hello,

When I scrape off just a pop out from the stucco (after removing the loose stuff with a putty knife) can't I just clean, apply a bonding agent, and re-stucco? I am only removing the top stucco and the base is fine (this isn't a great example picture because here, I'll actually need to add a touch of base to the crack in the base). But, if the crack weren't there, aren't I looking at a clean base that I can put stucco directly on (with a liquid bond)?

The person at the store said I should mix up stucco base and apply that first to all patch jobs --- but I'm thinking that he thinks there are large holes. I think my work is more cosmetic (?)

Thanks in advance for some help and guidance on this!

Welcome to the forums!

Most of my stucco experience is related to making repairs prior to painting the stucco but I see no need for a base coat [it's already there] IMO the hardest part is making the new blend with the old.
