Stucco Repair - no base coat
Hi,
I replaced a door so I had to remove about 4" of stucco around it. There was also a large trim piece above the door that I had to remove. I came to realize that the existing stucco on my house has no base coat - there is 1" foam insulation, wire lath and then about 1/8" of stucco. Perhaps this is EIFS?
Of course the foam insulation was held back from the door so around the door I installed a 1" thick base coat (fiberglass one coat base) level with the foam insulation. This is also what was done originally by builder. This base coat will be completely covered by my trim pieces since I tried very hard to limit stucco removal to area under trim.
My question is - for the area under the trim piece where the foam is exposed (and some minor repairs) can I apply a standard stucco finish coat? Of course it's designed to go over base coat only so I assume it's not optimal. I will use foamTek to apply the trim pieces but that also needs a stucco base. See pictures. The second picture is an area where some of the stucco came off outside where the trim will cover it so I will have to repair that. It also shows clearly that there is no base coat.
Thanks
