Hello, I'm working my way around the house replacing the old Homasote with plywood sheathing before installing the new siding. Where the section of the house with a basement meets the section on a slab, it looks like more could have been done to make the bottom plate more weather proof. Here's picture of the section I'm talking about: [ATTACH]83583[/ATTACH] There is no foam or gasket under the bottom plate on the slab (right side of the picture). The 2x4 plate is a little soft on the surface, but the softness is not deep, so it is not rotted yet. I've been in the house for about 25 years and I know that the addition was not new when we moved in, so, all things considered, it's holding up pretty well. Before I close it up though, I want to do what I can to make the area as weather proof as possible. On the slab side, I'm thinking of using pressure treated plywood at the very bottom; at least to the height of the rim-joist on the basement side. Any suggestions would be appreciated. What to seal old drill holes on outside stucco wall with? Also, drill bit size for new holes? I am replacing an irrigation controller with another one of different dimensions. So I have to remove the existing controller and drill new holes since the existing holes won’t work. My questions are: 1) What to seal the old holes (3) with? Want to patch them up rather than leave them. I believe the wall has a thin layer of stucco over wood but not sure. The exterior is definitely stucco. Give me some product recommendations you have used successfully. In the future, I will paint over these filled holes but not immediately. 2) For the new holes (2), I was given 1/8 inch screws to hang the new controller on. What size drill bit should I use to pre-drill the holes? Thanks so much in advance!
