Hauling boxes vinyl siding suv

I have a trailblazer and need to get 2 boxes 4 square from home depot to my house. I can open back window and take front passenger side head rest off and can fit up to the dash 9 feet with 3 feet sticking out the back of truck. I have 2 questions. Do I transport boxes standing up on long edges so not to buckle and do I need to put a 2x12 under the boxes and tie with rope to support? I hate to pay 70 dollars for delivery every time I need a few boxes. Thank you.

Put a 2x12x12' under it and lay it flat. Also tie them up or put a ratchet strap around the 2x12 so that they can't slide off when you go around a corner.

On edge would be stronger if you have a way of securing the boxes vertical. Securely wrapping the protruding end of the box with stretch wrap will also help make it stronger.

I built most of my house out of a 1969 Bronco. Most every time I went to the lumber yard I purchased two 12'-16' 2xs and slid them under the front seats. I then loaded whatever long material I needed on top of those 2xs and tied it down.

If you put them on edge they will want to roll off.

Hauling Long Boxes

Supported mine with an extension ladder. Tying securely is a must.
