Filling hole drilled by the tele co.

Behind the end cap is a hole that leads a run of cat3 straight into one of the rooms. Although this hole has existed for many years, only recently has it been discovered by argentine ants. I plan to remove the cable and seal the hole entirely. Is caulk the proper compound to use? If so, what type works well for this application?

Any type of exterior caulk or even some cement/mortar/stucco can be used to fill!

I use caulk because it's quicker/easier than mortar/stucco.
