Q about installing aluminium fascia& soffit
Hi all
I would like to cover with aluminum the wood board fascias and soffit around the house
Fascia under the roof edge is 6'' x 3/4 boards .The soffit panel [ 1/4 plywood ] is attached to the fascia 1/2'' above the bottom edge
My question is how to support the aluminum soffit on the fascia side as the U shape of aluminum fascia bottom covers entirely the 1/2'' espace between the soffit and the fascias edge
If I lower the 6'' alu fascia 1/2'' to allowed for the 1/2'' I need for the soffit I ll be short on the top
Thank you

Post a picture of what you have now please.
Main reason I want to see the best way to tie it into the house side.
In most cases I'd remove all the old soffit and use new full vented soffit.
Soffit is installed first then anyone with a brake can custom cut it to any shape and width you need.
Even if you used prebent aluminum fascia you can buy it in wider widths.

Thank you Joe
I ll try to post a picture On the house side there is a second fascia [ for decor?] 8'' x 3/4 nailed to the bricks running all around the house
I was planning on removing the trim where the soffit and this second fascia join and install
J channel
As to remove the existing soffit I was planning on just cover the existing providing adequate venting

What I do is rip sheets of 1/2" plywood about 2" wide and staple that up to the soffit next to the house. Then staple j channel to that. The soffit sits on the bottom of your fascia. Your drip edge better be long enough to cover the top of the fascia cover... if it isn't it's likely because the goofy roofers used d-style drip edge instead of gutter apron which is longer... and flashes a gutter better. Will watch for the pics.
I'd also use center vented soffit, not entirely vented panels.

BTW Im gonna have to slide a flat screwdriver all along between the drip edge and fascia to separete for there is almost no room for the alu fascia

I agree 100% with getting rid of all of that old soffit before doing anything.
Next I'd be wrapping that old 1 X 4 with coil stock in sort of a Z shape with a 1/2" Hem (a hem is when you bend the metal back over it'self and squeeze it tight in the brake) at the top to make it stronger.
If bent right that will hold up and cover the end of the new soffit, and there would be no need for any J mold.
The new soffit gets nailed to the bottom of the 1 X 6.
If you punch a tab in the new fashia at the top it will slide in under the drip cap and stay there.
I use a tiny oval shaped punch made for trim nails to punch the 3/4" bend at the bottom of the new fashia so there's no face nails showing, and never nail them tight so the material can expand and contract and not oil can.
