Painting Aluminum Flashing

The white paint on flashing was coming off by itself. It was very chalky. I scrubbed it with bleach and TSP. Now I have only aluminum. Replacing is not an option. What primers, paints and methods should be used to have a paint that lasts and looks good?

Latex house paint adheres well provided all the chalk has been removed. When it's not - add Flood's EmulsaBond to the first coat of latex to insure adhesion. Aluminum is one of the few substrates where primer is optional.

How wide is the flashing? although either would be fine.

You will usually get better adhesion if you use a brush. 2 thin coats are better than one heavy one.

I wouldn't think the application method would make any difference on paint adhesion over aluminum. I spray it when I can - just to get a factory appearance. When it's just small areas I usually use a brush. The main thing is for the aluminum to be chalk free! latex paint doesn't adhere well over chalk.

The flashing is about 10 inches wide right below some decorative copper bay roof.

Roller should be fine, whatever you are comfortable using.
