Do I need to touch up the wood paint after reroofing?

We just had our roof replaced. The new drip edge is slight narrower than the old one. So there is about 1-inch wide unpainted area along the drip edge (see the picture) on the wood rafter. Do I have to touch it up? Would it cause damage if I don't touch it up soon?

Thanks a lot!

Welcome to the forums!
It really depends on how wet it gets. If it gets pretty wet and often it would be best to prime/paint soon. If it rarely gets wet it shouldn't hurt to wait.

Little late now, it should have been cleaned up, primed and painted before the drip edge went on.
A whole lot easier even now to prime and paint then to have to deal with removing and replacing rotten wood later on..

Many years ago, to provide more extension over the edge of the roof for the shingles and to add a decorative touch, an additional piece or trim was installed along the facia board. These days they just use a aluminum drip edge to give it more overhang. Your trim piece is in need of replacement. Too bad the roofer didn't take care of that . You can purchase the trim piece in PVC. Just a matter of using a flat bar to pry the old trim off and pull any nails then install the new.
