Removing Chalking on Painted Steel Garage Door
My west facing garage door is chalking up. I am not ready to repaint. I have scrubbed with Simple Green and it did take a lot of the chalking off but there is still a faint white film in some spots.
Is there another product I can try.

Washing with TSP and a scrub brush in a bucket of very hot water will usually do the trick.
Once you get it clean, applying a paste wax, or even polishing it with Lemon Pledge will help keep the metal clean. Applying wax will affect your plans to repaint, however. Latex paint and wax don't play well together.

If the TSP hurts the paint, then your paint has basically turned to chalk and its no longer bonded to the metal very well. Its possible you could scrub right down to bare metal for all I know.

While TSP is often used in the prep process prior to painting it is also used for just cleaning. Any dulling of the existing paint is minor. Generally by the time the existing paint is turning to chalk it's time to repaint. Since paint won't adhere long term to chalk it's imperative it be removed first, when it can't be removed you add Flood's EmulsaBond to the first coat of latex.

Chalking is the last gasp of paint failure, removing it without a planned solution, you might as well just leave it alone.
