Mix siding?

Getting my 60's ranch exterior redone with wrap, insulation and vinyl siding. Removing older masonite. I saw a house with a nice cedar shingle style on the front and traditional shiplap on the rest of the house. At $400 extra per sq, I can't afford the whole 20 sq sided. What do you think of just the front done, same color?

I think a variety of exterior materials always adds visual details!

Lots of houses have a similar mix of siding and not just in your era. Historically the front or public side of a house was sided in a more expensive type to show off wealth. In the 1700s bright green paint indicated wealth due to the cost of copper ingredients.

It's not unusual to accent a section of a side with a different color or texture, but we can't see your house, so....
