Mounting mailbox to pipe: bracket issues
Hello,
I recently bought a wall-mount mailbox and want to hang it on one of my metal fence posts. For the life of me I can't figure out how to mount it .to the metal fence post.
I bought a kit from Gibraltar, Rmb20r00 Round Post Mailbox Brackets, and bought two u-bolts. Unfortunately, the u-bolt diameter would not fit into the holes on the brackets.
I have seen other wall-mounted mailboxes mounted to metal fence posts. What am I missing?
It's driving me crazy!

Here are the mailbox brackets I bought.....
Gibraltar Mailboxes. America's #1 Best Selling Mailboxes

The holes on it are smaller than the u-bolts so I couldn't figure out next steps.
I like the suggestion of drilling a larger hole for the bracket. If I do this then I can use the u-bolt.
The reason I didn't put the u-bolt directly into the back of the mailbox is that the bracket helps the mailbox stick out a little further so that the mailman can access it. Hope this makes sense.

I'm actually surprised the kit didn't come with u-bolts.
Drilling the holes larger in the brackets should take care of the problem.
Otherwise.... you can purchase thinner u-bolts.

A regular mail box is design to sit on the bracket. The sides of the mail box extend beyond its bottom and have hole that should line up with the bracket. You could use it to mount your wall type mail box but it won't really look right.
