Safety Gate

Hi all - I have a outdoor stairwell that goes to the back of my house to the basement. I would like to put a gate across it so that my kids don't accidentally fall down. The only ones I see are over $100 which seems like a lot for a gate. I just need one that is about 44" wide. Any ideas?

Do you mean with wood? The only down side is the railing next to the stair is black iron. Not sure how good a wood one would look. Any ideas? I'll try to get a picture.

Having a custom built metal gate for $100 is not that bad. Plus no amount of money to keep kids safe is too much.

HD... and Lws has BLACK STEEL accent gates designed more towards a garden gate that can be used in this application.
They sell for about $30.00
You would need to makeshift hinges that would or could be attached to your existing posts for the black iron fencing... or if need be you can attach those male female hinges to a wood post or side of home.

$100.00 is not a lot when it comes to building a steel or iron gate. The gate, the hinges and the latch... adding it all together, sometimes the material list could go excess of $300.00 for materials alone.

A wood gate would be an option. Much would depend on the type of wood. The hinges and the latch costs are pretty standard to costing about $25.00+- a few. Assuming purchase of one section of 4 foot high wood spaced picket fencing and one 2 x 4 truss... Considering these costs a wood gate could possibly cost between $60-100.00

Sometimes functionality is the top priority. When it comes to cost, looks are secondary.

Best of luck with this project...
