Hello everyone,

I am a typical diy homeowner and am wanting to install a vinyl privacy fence. I live in the northeast - cold cimate! - and am wondering whether galvanized steel is a better choice for the insert that goes into the post sleeves or aluminum? There are advantages to both, of course; but wondering about durability...

What is your definition of "durability"? Steel is usually cheaper and how long you go without rust depends on the quality of the plating. Aluminum is usually more expensive and never rusts but may not be as strong.

Loose bottom in chain link fence

I have a new pup and he got under a section of neighbor's chain link fencing that's has some gaps along the bottom. There is no wire or metal bar at the bottom. Can't afford $800 repair estimate to replace 24' (three sections.) Thinking maybe run some stranded cable through the bottom edge, clamp to posts and driving down some tent or garden stakes. Comments or alternative suggestions are Welcome.:)Read More

Cutting angle help

I have a 4x4 post in the ground and need to cut a 2 x 8 at an angle to make it flush with the 4x4. Here is a picture looking down the 4x4 to the 2x8. The way the board is resting against the 4x4 it creates an angle that is clear in this photo. If I measure that angle and cut the 2x8 at that angle will it allow me to attache the 2x8 flush to the left side of the 4x4? If not how do I figure the correct angle with wasting time cutting and trying over and over. The 2x8 is not straight across as that would of been easy but to attach it to the other side.
