New fence, gate and post question

Hi Guys, great source of info here..

We're going to be putting a new run of fence between the neighbours yard and ours as the old one was 30+ years old and as expected: completely rotted out.

we are going 6' PT, shadow box style. 4x4 posts set 48" in the ground..
it's all pretty much straight forward.. where i have a question is in regards to the need for gate posts next to both of our houses.. i've attached a rough draft for a visual of what i'm talking about. The gates on our respective sides would be hung off of the set 4x4 posts. do i need another set of posts close to our garages if that is simply the latch side of the gates? would i be fine attaching something to the exterior of the garage (they're both brick) to fix the latch to?

Thanks!

I doubt you would be able to sink a post close enough to the house due to the footer protruding away from the foundation. If all you need is to latch the gate, you could attach a 2x4 to the side of the garage to accept the latch mechanism. Not sure if that answered your question or not.

Sure did.. and spared a bunch of related followup questions as well!

do you think i should run just regular solid board style on the top part of the 'T' (street facing)? is that something that is typically done? or just keep everything consistent with the shadowbox style?
thanks!

Since the gate will close solidly against the board I mentioned, you won't see it. It will be basically a stop board so your gate won't swing past it, and it will house your locking mechanism.
