Privacy fence idea

Has anyone ever beveled fence pickets so they slide under each other to avoid gaps in a privacy fence? Shiplap would be the other idea, but the material usually sold for pickets is kind of thin for that. Thanks,
Neil

I wouldn't do it. Overlapping them like that will cause those joints to take longer to dry [eventual rot] along with stopping any air flow which could be a problem if the wind picks up.

I think the thin edge where you bevel is prone to crack, curl and break off. If you're that concerned about cracks in a solid fence you might consider something like this where the boards overlap.
