Bent wrought iron gate latch
Like an idiot I backed into the driveway gate this morning, bending the latch. The gate of course won't close now. Attached a few photos of the damage.
1) How on earth did it bend like that? I was backing out onto a very busy street and couldn't have been going more than 5 mph. My car has a dent but nothing bad.
2) Would getting, say, a mallet and smacking it back into place work? Or would that do more damage and I should just pay to get it welded back?
3) Could I just remove that latch altogether? It's a sliding gate with a wheel track.
