Hi. I'm having some issues figure out who is supposed to make a certain repair. It turns out that a) the flashing around my chimney was 'fixed' before we moved into the house several years ago (improperly), and b) there is some mortar (a few rows worth) that needs to be repointed near the top of the chimney.

So far I've been told:

- by one chimney company that they can fix the flashing and mortar and do some other waterproofing for $900

- by another chimney company that they can only fix the flashing, after a roofing company fixes some shingles around the flashing, and that they (this chimney company) doesn't do repointing

- by a roofing company that they can fix the flashing for $2,000

- by another roofing company that they can fix the flashing for $700 and repointing for $800

- by another roofing company that they can do the flashing (not sure of cost) but not the repointng

So, in summary, any idea if I should be using a chimney company that can do both the flashing and pointing, a roofing company that can do both, or a roofer to do the flashing and a mason/chimney company to do the pointing?

Also, any ballpark idea as to what this should all cost?
