Ever Seen Anything Like This?

I was looking through pictures of a house for sale, just out of curiosity, and the below is what I saw. I felt I had to share this. Have you ever seen a brick chimney like this? You can see some cracking in the bottom right where it could be expected. While I'm no engineer, I did play with Legos when I was little and know this thing is moving in a not good way. Then again, it was there for 117 year like that, so who am I to judge? Was this not an uncommon practice back in the day or is this as ridiculous as it appears?

I don't even understand the purpose, since seems like they could have gone straight up.

It's probably a design/style thing. To bring it out the center of the peak of the roof from the room where it starts it had to go at an angle. I've seen them similar but not nearly to that extent.

Yes, the house I currently live in has a similar chimney, but not that severe.

I think that was designed by the Cheech & Chong Up In Smoke Architectural Firm.
