Fireplace flue damper
I have a fireplace that I have not used but am remodeling and hope to. I have noticed that the flue damper was removed at some point. I am wondering if there is any fire safety aspect to be concerned about considering there is no damper installed?
I would install a damper on the top of the flue at some point.

If you're going to install a sealed insert..... you don't need a damper. If you're going to use that fireplace to burn wood in..... you need the damper to keep all your heated air from being sucked out when the fireplace is not in use.

A damper is a way to cut off the airflow quickly in the event of a chimney fire. Make sure your chimney is clean.
So your plan is to install a remote damper at the top that uses the chains.
