White spots on firewood

I cut a Bay tree a few months ago and have had the logs under this tarp for a few months. What are the white spots?

That would be fungus. A type of mushroom, if you prefer.

Do I need to worry about it, treat it somehow?

I wouldn't give it a second thought. If I cover up my firewood I only cover the top. That way the firewood will season better. A tarp will trap moisture under it.

That's Mother Nature at work. Covered and lying on the ground is probably one of the fastest ways to rot wood. Damp and dark are perfect for molds, fungus and insects all things that decompose and break down wood. It's OK for burning but use it this season as it might not be very good next year.
