chimney problem

my brother in law had a chimney fire the other night and the fire department was called. they said his clay tile liner was cracked and should be replaced. what is the easiest way to fix this problem? stainless steel inside the clay liner? it is winter here and not a good time to replace the chimney, but would like recommendations on how to make the currently chimney usable until spring. thanks

A stainless steel liner would likely be the best bet and would be a long term fix. Normally it can be installed with the clay liner in place. The only way to replace the clay liner is to deconstruct the chimney down to that point.

I thought the stainless would be the best bet, but thought I would check for ideas. I thought about replacing the whole chimney, but don't know how to lay the block and it is winter time. thanks for the reply.

Make sure you are sitting down when you get the quote on that liner las one I heard was expensive. But replacing the current clay liner will not be cheap.

Only added thought would be dealing with any other appliances that share that chimney, like a gas water heater or furnace. Be sure to review all needs as now would be the time to fix all.

Bud

PS, if your BIL would be hiring the work done most would be inside and they would tent the top so cold isn't exactly an issue.
