Advice needed for drilling into concrete
Hi all,
I am installing a new pocket door as part of a basement remodel. The frame that's hidden inside the wall will need to sit up 3/4" from the cement floor in order to be the correct height. So I was thinking I would cut a treated piece of lumber (probably a 2x4) to make a small 3/4" platform that sits right on the concrete, and then drill the pocket door frame into this. So I have a lot of questions...
Does this sound like a good plan? Should I attach the 3/4" board to the concrete and then the frame to the 3/4" board separately? Or would it be better to get some long concrete anchors of some sort and drill straight through, attaching the frame, the board and the concrete all in one?
In the past, I used a powder actuated tool to fasten 2x4's into the basement floor. However, this time I only need 2 screws so I don't think it's worth the rental price on one of these. Can I use just a regular corded drill to drill the holes into the concrete? And what would be the best type of anchor? the pre-drilled holes in the door frame are quite small in diameter (though i could probably drill larger if I need to). How far does the anchor need to go into the concrete to be secure?

Yes, attach the 3/4 to cement first. You can use a little construction adhesive and either 2 1/4" tapcon or fluted masonry nail in a pilot hole. You need a hammer drill to drill into concrete.
