Framing for ceiling

I'm remodeling an older kitchen that had a drop ceiling which was suspended from 2 x 4s that are 10' 6" long, If I attach sheetrock to these 2 x 4s will they sag under the weight of the sheetrock?

Assuming they are on 16" centers, that's pretty close to the maximum span for #2 SPF.

See the top table, 5lbs/sq ft. https://up.codes/s/allowable-ceiling-joist-spans

This doesn't mean it will not sag, however. It just means the deflection is within tolerance for most ceilings. A larger dimension such as 2x6 would be less likely to sag.
