I couldn't find one that suited my needs so I made one. I used a long stroke, self contained hydraulic cylinder for the up/down and welded up a frame and put some high quality, large wheel casters under it. On top the seat slips over the top of the cylinder so it's easily removable. It can double as a seat and as a lifting/support jack.

Exactly why do you state the HF stool is trash? The first one I bought lasted several months even though I overloaded it by as much as 100 pounds. It broke at the welded collar that slips over the cylinder piston and the sheet-metal plate the seat cushion fastens to. I bought a new one recently (still HF) and this area is much beefier than the first.
