Desk repair

This is my first post so i hope i am doing this in the appropriate place. I recently purchased a used Ethan Allen desk and it has some blemishes on the top. I was curious what could be done to repair. I am a novice and not even sure to identify what type of blemishes they are. I do have some pictures. Any advice on how to repair would be greatly wanted!

thanks again,
Robert

While you "could" attempt a small repair, it will not be invisible, and will always stand out. The best repair would be to strip the entire top (chemical stripper) then lightly sand the entire surface in a uniform manner, (120 / 150 grit) then stain the wood to give it the correct color, then apply a coat of sanding sealer, then lightly sand with 220 grit, then apply several coats of finish (usually polyurethane), sanding lightly (220 grit) between coats.

Be sure you don't get any stripper on the rest of the desk! And follow the label directions. You will probably need to do the edges of the top as well.

One thing I didn't mention, which most people already know... always sand with the grain. In your pictures, that is left and right only.
