Knot repair cedar picnic table
Our cedar picnic table has a large knot on the main surface. A piece of it fell out today (pictured). The rest of it is a little loose and slightly raised.
What’s the best repair for this? Glue the piece back in ? Wood putty? Epoxy?
Looking for durability and aesthetics.
Table is finished with DB Linseed oil.
Thanks

I see two options. You can just wipe some linseed oil over that divot and consider it character. If you don't like the fact that its not smooth, maybe consider pouring some clear epoxy in the hole and letting it fill the depression.
That's wood that will have cracking and knots so working hard to repair the depression is not necessarily a value added proposition.

If you fill the divot with epoxy the sun will yellow the epoxy with time. It would probably match the tone of the wood and look good but it won't remain water clear forever in the sun.
