Garage door hums/buzzes, doesn't open. Occasionally still works
So moved into a new house, the door is a little damaged but still goes up and down under my power. The previous owners say it didn't work. I get it to work on occasion, once every two days. Usually it just hums/buzzes. I did some research, is it the capacitor? I don't hear a grinding noise. Also, why does it sometimes work (usually doesn't)? When the door does work, it goes up and down without issue
Thanks

You could start by telling us what opener you have. Without knowing what you have it's difficult/impossible to offer any specific advice.

Going to need a little more than that. There are many Genie Pro Max models.
Some are chain drive and some are belt.
There will be a model number on it.... usually on the back.

Its a genie pmx 500 IC/B (belt drive)
Small update, I bought a new board and capacitor and changed them out. The door was working, though would close too far (slack in the chain) and automatically open again. Now the opener doesn't do anything, won't even humm/buzz on pushing the button.
Any ideas?
Thanks
