Side it or paint it?

I have a 27x27 detached garage. It's on a concrete pad and framed by reclaimed wood which is rough but actually pretty solid. Roof is in great shape. But the walls are simply plywood panels. Considering the age of it they're actually not in too bad a shape and could probably be salvaged with a properly done sand, clean, prime, and paint.

Or... I could put a weather barrier over it and install actual siding over top of it. It's a country home. Considering I'm selling anywhere from 5 to 10 years from now would you bother with the extra expense of siding it or just maintain the paint job? Repainting will be much less expensive and won't make much of a difference in curb appeal in my opinion so I'm leaning towards that. The trim work around the garage doors could use replacing maybe but that's pretty minor

I would put siding on it. LP smartside lap siding is pretty inexpensive and looks good. It would make it look like a new garage. 80 pieces would cost you about $500. Plus corner trim and door trim and housewrap and nails.

A little hard to say since we can't see what your garage currently looks like. New siding would look nice so I guess a lot depends on your budget and priorities.

My main issue with that LP panelling is the manufacturer says it still has to be painted anyway. The current plywood panelling has been sitting there for decades with old stain on it and still looks like it's paintable because there's no broken areas. Some spots at ground level that look worn but nothing I don't think sanding won't fix. I guess I answered my own question lol. I'll just repaint it. I did my entire house's wood siding in SW A100 and it seems to be holding up well so I'll just do that again.

Do you know the difference between LP lap siding and panels?

No I looked it up and all I saw was a product called Smartside Panel made by LP. Then I checked the manufacturer install instructions and it said must be painted.

Ah ok I looked again and found the product you're referring to but again the manufacturer instructions still state it must be primed and painted
