I need some help. I'm considering the purchase of a garage door opener but I have an issue with installation. I have a crossbeam in my garage that may be getting in the way of installing the opener. Any tips or ideas on how I could install a Ryobi garage door opener and track that won't be an issue?

 

It may not be a problem at all. You'll need to read the directions for install, but very likely you can drop the opener on metal strapping or braces made of angle and just adjust the opener arm to the correct length. Thats assuming there is clearance above the uppermost point of travel of the door to allow mounting of the header wall bracket for the rail.

I have no experience with the Ryobi units, only their tools. Genie has installation instructions for their openers on their website and since all rail type openers are pretty much the same, you could go there for info. Or buy the Ryobi and return if it won't work.

You may need to go to a jackshift side mounted opener. More expensive yes, but much higher quality and reliability as well.

I've never seen such poor planning in construction in my life, btw. What were they thinking?

 

First... stay away from Ryobi openers they are troublesome. Second, it doesen't appear you have enough back room with the support beam there, unless the top of the door section is two inches below the bottom of that beam. People have installed Liftmaster residential jack shaft openers (Model 8500) on low head room torsion (which is what you have) but it's not recommended and it may have to be mounted up side down depending on how your springs are set up. My advice would to be call a professional door company
