Are maple trees salvageable?

I had been growing maple trees in a cup, in hopes of giving them as a gift. Planting season had already ended in Illinois, so I kept them in the cup. I knew I was going on vacation for 11 days. I soaked the trees, and placed the cup in a bowl which was filled with water. When I came back home, the bowl was empty, soil was dry as a bone, as all the leaves were shriveled up.
I did scrape at the bark, and there is still green tissue under it.
What can I do?
*These aren't any old tree, they were blessed by a priest, and presented to me. I can't exactly ask for more trees, or tell the congregation that I killed them*

All you can do is water them and pray they make it, probably a 50/50 chance.
